Hayden Kho Senate Hearing Trumps Daytime Soap Operas

The Hayden Kho Senate hearing Thursday afternoon became the most exciting daytime program on television as it involves reality, drama, crime and suspense. Needless to say, the water-dousing incident builds up the climax.

Here is the statement of Katrina Halili during the Senate hearing:

Artista po ako. Trabaho ko ang maghatid ng tuwa. Pantasya ng telebisyon at pelikula. Pero tulad ng iba may pribado ring buhay din ako gaya ng lahat. Sa pagkakataong ito. dangal ko at dangal ng pamilya ang pinag-uusapan dito. Minahal ko si Hayden. Bata ako kaya madaling nalagyan ng piring ang aking mga mata para isiping ako lang ang nagmamay-ari ng puso niya. Pero gaya ng lahat ng relasyong nagsimula sa kasinunagalingan, wala itong pinatunguhan.

Wala akong malay na ang bawat yakap at halik ay scripted. Buong-buo kong binigay ang puso at ang kaluluwa ko sa isang lalaking gumagawa pala ng sariling pelikula. Ang tanga ko. Imbes na doktor, direktor pala. Inaamin ko ang pagkakamali ko. Ang pagkakamali ko ay minahal ko siya. At naniwala ako na minahal n’ya rin ako ng lubusan.

Ako raw ang prinsesa niya sa ikalawa niyang mundo. Bata po ako madali niya ako napaniwala. Ako ang biktima rito. Araw-araw biktima ako habang pinapanood ang nasabing video. Hiling ko po ang hustisya sa hukuman kahit alam kong habang buhay ko nang dadalhin ang ginawa sa akin.

Patay na ako pero may video pa rin at may Internet. Dalawa lang kasong sinampa ko sa pambababoy na ginawa sa akin sa pagkatao ko. Gusto ko siyang matanggalan ng lisensiya bilang doktor. Wala siyang karapatang maging doktor. Gusto ko rin siyang makulong at pagdusahan niya ang ginawa niya sa akin.

Pero ano po ang iginanti nila. Kasama ni Hayden ang kanyang ina. Sari-saring paninira ang binato nila sa akin at sa mga taong tumutulong sa akin. Inabuso na ako at binaboy, ako pa ang may sala. Inabuso na nga ako sa sex video, inaabuso pa ako muli sa publiko.

And issue dito ay pang-aabuso sa kababaihan. Ang pambababoy sa akin at sa iba pang biktima ni Hayden. Sa kultura po natin habambuhay na latay sa pagkatao ko ang ginawa sa akin. May ina din po ako na nasasaktan. Araw-araw na nagdurusa. May anak o kapatid din po kayo na babae. Ayaw din n’yo mangyari sa kanila ang sinapit ko.

Sana ipagpatuloy ng Senado at madaliin ang pagsusulong ng mga batas na may layuning itaguyod ang karapatan at proteksyon para sa aming kababaihan dahil iba na ang ginagamit na panggagahasa at pambababoy sa karapatan ng kababaihan. Sa Intenet, sa blogs, DVDs at iba pa.

Nabiktima ako. Isa ako sa maraming babaeng naloko at niloko ni Hayden Kho. Pero may hangganan ang katangahan. At sa araw na ito buong loob na humaharap sa inyo na puno ng respeto sa sarili. Ilalaban ko ang aking karapatan ng mabuhay ng marangal, ng walang takot at malayo sa karanasang inabot ko dahil sa sex video.

Hayden Kho, on the other hand, accused Katrina Halili of influencing him to use drugs. He admitted that he made some of the sex videos while under the influence of drugs.

“I myself don’t know why I made these videos. I have been undergoing psychotherapy to know why I do such things and why men and women do such things,” Kho said during the Senate committee hearing.

“I am not attributing drugs as my reason for taking the sex videos. These are things that I am very, very ashamed of. I am not proud of these videos,” he added.

Kho said only two people are qualified suspects for the sex video leak: his former friends Eric Johnston Chua and Herbert “Bistek” Rosario. He said the sex videos are in his hard drive but it went missing last December 2008 after he had a falling-out with his girlfriend, Dr. Vicki Belo.

Congressman Manny Pacquiao (Pacman 2010)

When a man has everything in this country, what does he do?
He enters politics.
Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is a billionaire (in peso terms) who can afford not to work for the rest of his life. He enjoys international fame and has reaped honors for his country. He has a solid family.
What more can a man who has accomplished so much at a young age want??
He wants to become a congressman in 2010.
Maybe Pacquiao doesn’t like being defeated in anything, and must prove that if he can be a world champion in the ring, he can also win big in another arena.
But just to make sure, he’s not going for a rematch with the Antonino clan of his native South Cotabato, where the youthful Darlene Antonino-Custodio trounced him in the race for a congressional seat in 2007.
Instead “Pacman” is relocating to neighboring Sarangani, where he has already bought property to satisfy the residency requirement for those running for a seat in the House of Representatives in May 2010.
His potential rivals in Sarangani are already preparing to portray him to voters as a carpetbagger.
Meanwhile, some of his fans are trying to dissuade him from entering the dirty world of Philippine politics.
These fans lament that the political hangers-on who accompany Pacquiao or watch all his matches diminish the celebration of his boxing victories.
But it’s a free country, and as Joseph Estrada likes to remind everyone since his absolute pardon, if he can vote, he can be voted upon.
The Commission on Elections has approved the registration of Pacquiao’s own political party.
Pacquiao is well within his right to run for the House, or even the Senate, where his critics believe he can increase membership in the committee on silence headed by former action star Lito Lapid.
The worst that can happen to Pacquiao is that he loses his bid for the second time, plus a great deal of money in the campaign. But if he can throw away a fortune in the casinos of Las Vegas, he can afford to throw away part of his substantial nest egg in a political campaign.
The size of that nest egg is already beyond the wildest dreams of the average resident of Sarangani, and Pacquiao still has a few more fights – and a few more million dollars in earnings – to go before he retires from boxing.
Even after three more fights, Pacquiao will be too young to enjoy retirement. He needs to do something. And never one to set his sights low, he’s aiming for political office.

Brillante Mendoza Wins Best Director at Cannes

Our very own Brillante Mendoza bags the Prix de la Mise en Scene Best Director award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his movie “Kinatay.”

Although Mendoza’s movie split the critics, he was able to beat Oscar bigwigs like Jane Campion (The Piano), Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility, Brokeback Mountain), Pedro Almodovar (All About My Mother) and Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction). Mendoza was recognized for his determination to portray the social reality around him.
“Kinatay” (meaning “butchered” in Tagalog) notably features corrupt cops hacking a prostitute to pieces with blunt kitchen knives. It stars Coco Martin with a supporting cast that include Mercedes Cabral (Serbis), Maria Isabel Lopez, Lauren Novero (Troika) and John Regala.
Last year was the first time since 1984 the Philippines had a film competing for the top prize at Cannes, the Palme d’Or. And this year is the first time that a Filipino had won in Cannes.

Baron Geisler Accused of Sexual Harrasment by Yasmien Kurdi

GMA’s young actress Yasmien Kurdi filed before the Philippine National Police on Monday charges of acts of lasciviousness against the award-winning actor Baron Geisler.
The starstruck princess personally filed her complaint before the PNP Women’s Crisis and Child Protection Center in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Yasmien said that Baron harrassed her on May 21, the first day they met at the taping of GMA’s mini-series “Suspetsa” where they’re both lead stars.
At first, Yasmien alleged that Baron talked dirty stuff on her. Then the actor showed indecent gestures with his hand at her. Yasmien finally cried foul after Baron embraced her.
The actress said the harassment occurred in front of the production staff. She also disclosed that Geisler had allegedly sent her lewd text messages.
This is the second time that Geisler has been accused of sexual harassment. The first incident was with the daughter of William Martinez and Yayo Aguila, in which the case hasn’t been resolved as of yet.

DOH confirms first A(H1N1) case in the Philippines

The Philippine health department announced Thursday evening that there has been one A(H1N1) flu case confirmed in the country.Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, who is currently at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva, said in a teleconference that a 10-year-old Filipino girl who flew in from the United States earlier this week tested positive for the virus.“The Department of Health confirms today the first case of A(H1N1) in the Philippines,” Duque said.The patient, who had also visited Canada when she was in the U.S., is currently being treated at an undisclosed medical facility.According to the health secretary, the girl no longer has a fever but her throat remains sore and she is under observation and her family quarantined.“We advise the public not to panic. There is no community level outbreak. Measures are being implemented to prevent transmission,” Duque added.The World Health Organization earlier raised its tally of A(H1N1) cases around the world to 11,034 and 85 deaths
